The price of Patchouli oil has been on the low side since the beginning of the year and this has discouraged many farmers to switch to other plants and some even abandoning their Patchouli plants. Because the cycle for Patchouli is ~4-6 months, we are now starting to see a drop in supply and some price increase in the market.
In regards to weather, it is predicted that many regions in Indonesia will receive more rainfalls, especially in the months of June and July. This will affect the harvest of many crops, including patchouli, clove, citronella, nutmeg and many others.
During wet conditions, the yield is typically lower as well as the quality, because it is much harder for producers to dry and prepare the material for optimal extraction.
